‘Jute tea’ to hit local market soon

“It will be available in the local market soon,” Textiles and Jute Minister Jahangir Kabir Nanak told the media at the Secretariat on Wednesday (July 3)

“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina instructed us to produce jute tea. We are in the process of launching two types of tea — ‘Rosella Tea’ and ‘Jute Tea’,” he said.

In 2016, the Bangladesh Jute Research Institute (BJRI) first successfully produced tea from jute leaves. After this, Aqua Agro Tech, a company based in Dhaka, began exporting organic jute leaf tea to Germany.

Jute leaves are low in carbs and rich in vitamins and minerals, including vitamins A and C, riboflavin, folate, and iron. The raw leaves are often consumed as vegetables.
